G is for Grammar: This is way too big a topic!!

Source

What is Grammar?
In linguistics, grammar is the set of structural rules that govern the composition of clauses, phrases, and words in any given natural language. (Source, Wikipedia).

Why is Grammar Important?
It is a necessary tool that the writer needs to ensure that the writing is clear and understandable. In addition, good grammar makes your writing more enjoyable to read.

As expressed in the above, G is for Grammar. To be honest, when I wrote down the topics I wanted to cover in the A-Z Challenge, I scribbled down the word Grammar without thinking much about out . . . until now. Grammar is a HUGE topic! I don't think I can do it justice in this one post. After the A-Z Challenge I would like to visit the topic again in more detail, breaking it down into its individual components. For example:

  1. Proper use of punctuation
  2. Sentence structure
  3. Spelling Bees
  4. Paragraph structure
  5. When breaking grammatical rules can work
Is there anything else you would like to see me cover in future posts that you can add to the list on grammar?

In the meantime, do you have any trouble when it comes to certain grammatical rules? For me, I tend to use the semi-colon quite frequently. Though I have a good idea of the purpose of its usage, I tend to plug in semi-colons everywhere, and I find that distracts from the flow of my writing.

Have a Super Saturday! Below are some signs that need some grammatical correction.

  1. English major here - I love grammar. My favorite example is "Let's eat Grandma." vs "Let's eat, Grandma." Grammar literally saves lives.
Awesome post and happy A-Z blogging.

    1. Thanks S.L.

Grammar can sometimes get pushed to the side in writing because it is not as fun as creating the story world, but grammar is so essential to good writing! Happy A-Z blogging to you as well.
